Feeling rushed? Too much to do and not enough time?
Take a few deep cleansing breaths.
I wonder what we are being invited to let go of …
Reeling with frustration? Rough decisions?
Listen for the Spirit whispering ‘more of me … less of you’.
He is ready to soften the fall of being caught up trying to be more than we can do or be and discover at a greater depth that he is our all in all.
I wonder what aspects of our lives could be washed down river in order to stumble less on obstacles of over-busyness; to stand on the solid rock of doing only what he asks in the joyful confidence and strength he provides.
Its hard to hear much but the roar of ‘more, more’ when standing in the midst of churning thoughts and concerns, in what seem to be burning needs and the ‘oughts’ of internal tapes or expectations of those around us keeping us moving rapidly through the day.
And sometimes, there really is a season of much needed activity threatening to overflow our spiritual banks where usual boundaries necessary for long-term health wash away.
But the fresh spray of invitation to peaceful prayer and practical expressions of his good news in faithful obedience above the gushing currents of ego motivation splashes on our upturned faces and says, ‘less striving’.
We have already arrived in the secure love of Christ.
Alive in him, carried by him, we’ll not be swept away.
“The LORD sits enthroned over the flood; the LORD sits enthroned as king forever. May the LORD give strength to his people! May the LORD bless his people with peace!” (Psalm 29: 10-11)
‘Lord, help each one of us rise above survival mode … and rest in you. With each breath, may we see the calming gifts of your goodness on the shores of sometimes heavy workloads, learning what needs to stay and what needs to go.
Cause bubbles of joy to fountain up within our souls as we learn to better go with the flow of your Spirit.
More of you, less of us. Amen.’
